RACO Electric Actuators – Reliable Product with lifetime support
RACO Electric Actuators are built to very high standards. In doing this, the Actuator Assembly can last for many, many years. While maintenance is minimal, the unit cannot be without some inspection and periodic evaluation, over time, to extend it’s useful life. This is especially true in extreme and harsh conditions that the RACO Heavy Duty Actuators are often applied into. Every Actuator is shipped with Operation and Maintenance manuals to further assure that the end user has all the vital information to maintain every unit. Our support means timely communication with our customers and providing full product documentation upfront.
OPERATION & MAINTENANCE MANUALS: Your O + M’s, Your Documentation
These documents contain all the particulars of the Electric Actuator being supplied. The Electrical and mechanical specifications, size and thrust limits, as well as all the specifications for the unit and peripheral components provided. More importantly, there is a unique Serial Number/Job Number that is on the RACO Actuator Nameplate and identified with the O+M’s. This will be important information to provide to RACO Engineers in the event that any problems with actuator emerge over time. This must be conveyed to RACO directly and quickly. Going to a third party for a RACO Electric Actuator repair is strongly discouraged as warranty responsibilities may become unclear. RACO Repair and Service only uses RACO parts and does not take any cost cutting shortcuts with your Actuator. Please contact RACO’s US repair facility as soon as your troubleshooting indicates that you need assistance. That is what our service and repair group in Bethel Park, PA excels at and can issue a Returned Goods Authorization form quickly to get things moving towards a complete, fast evaluation.

Downtime is never easy and time is of the essence to get up-and- running again. Don’t use third parties in these cases, as they are not authorized and cannot properly address the actuator’s condition. The most important information for identifying an actuator is the Serial Number. It will be found on the front page of the manual. It is a 5 digit number followed by a period and 001(ex. 12345.001). If there were more than one actuator made it would have a -.00 and the number accordingly ex. 12345.001-.005. This is also our RACO order number found on order Acknowledgements, but will be followed by three zeros (ex.12345000) and the same number found in the bottom right of MD and WD drawings supplied in the manual.
The most common Tag or nameplate on our standard actuators, is for the MA or EC Product. It will be found on the Coupling housing of in line design and either on the back or side of a C-Housing of a C-Design (see sample nameplate below). You can see the first thing is "TYPE" (ex. IBO-T1A5-NFAAYIB). This gives a general description of the actuator. Right next to "TYPE" is "NO." This is the Serial Number of the unit and the most important information to Identify the actuator. This allows us to pull the specific file for the unit. While The SN# is the most important information it is helpful to have the TYPE of actuator assembly available also, as a further identifier. Always better to have more information than less to speed up the process.

RACO Bethel Park Return and Repair Policy
Taking appropriate steps in sizing, selecting, installing the actuator, along with some routine maintenance helps prevent any possible breakdown, however, actuator wear and tear happens. Visually inspect the outer portion of the actuator often and note any shock loading or vibration while operating. Also listen for any unusual noise coming from the actuator while running. If supplied with controls, check these devices for excessive heat or unusual alarms. Despite all these precautions, electric actuators do have a finite service life and may have to be returned to RACO for evaluation and possible repair or be scrapped.
Repair questions and forms can be found on the website. Likewise contacting RACO will speed up the process.
Repair Process and Standard Lead Times
The RACO Electric actuator repair policy states that any of our units must be returned to Bethel Park, PA in order to perform a complete inspection and evaluation. RACO‘s repair team will furnish a Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) and advise of any costs. Once returned, a full tear-down of the unit to see where the issues lie and then a disposition will be furnished to the customer. This may take a few days and a quote will be furnished to the customer. This will be a detailed report detailing the part, or parts needing replaced and work to be done. If the ball screw or ACME screw, being the major component in the actuator, is damaged, then the entire actuator will need to be replaced. Repairs or reworks to a screw are not economical nor practical.
Normal lead times to repair an actuator are dependent on the work and parts needed. Typically, this can be a few weeks. RACO realizes customer downtime is critical and can provide a quicker turnaround, as a premium, by expediting parts and prioritizing the repair in our shop.
